A new comedy night launches today

❝

Tonight, Salford Lads Club is hosting the first ever Salford Laughs Club - a brand new comedy night put together by Richard Renda, a 43-year-old Salford comedian who saw the space, fell in love with it and decided it deserved a regular comedy night.

Salford Lads Club is 120 years old and has been at the heart of this community for generations. Richard's dad used to go there as a kid, and friends of his in their 50s and 60s still go back regularly. It is that kind of place you want to be as a lad.

And at just £5 a ticket, Richard has made sure the night is affordable and accessible to everyone, which is something he felt strongly about given the area.

"There's no better place than Salford Lads Club," Richard said. "It's been giving people access to performing spaces, sports and entertainment for decades. I just wanted to follow on that legacy and add to it."

The first event is tonight and will also include 6 north-west comedians, with performers ranging from 19 years old upwards. Click here to to book your tickets.

Rudy's Pizza is coming to Monton

❝

Rudy's Pizza Napoletana started in Ancoats in 2015 with one restaurant and a very clear idea of what Neapolitan pizza should taste like. Eleven years later they are opening their 41st restaurant in Salford.

The menu covers the classics - Margherita, Calabrese alongside regularly changing specials developed with pizzaiolos from around the world. Recent specials include The Peppe, featuring fior di latte, lemon ricotta, bresaola, confit tomatoes, lemon zest and basil.

Desserts include freshly made tiramisu and panna cotta cheesecake with red berry compote. While drinks cover Aperol and Hugo spritzers, local lagers and Rudy's own Morello Cherry and Mandarino spritzers.

The restaurant seats over 120 people and opens on Sunday 8th November at midday and they’ll be giving away 3000 Pizzas.

Before that, a pre-opening event is taking place with all proceeds going to Salford Foundation, a local charity supporting children, young people and adults across the city. It is already sold out but customers visiting after opening will also have chances to donate. Click here to learn more.

Salford gets £4.4 million boost from developer contributions

❝

More than £4.4m of developer contributions has been approved for spending across Salford communities with the money coming from Section 106 funding (contributions that developers are required to make to offset the impact of new developments on local areas).

The Council approved the spend on Monday the 26th and the focus is on community infrastructure such as parks, playing fields, allotments, sports facilities and affordable housing in the Little Hulton ward and beyond.

Since Peel Park, Madamswood Playing Fields and Little Hulton Cricket Club have already benefited from earlier rounds of this funding, additional funding will be spent on improved pitch drainage and new changing rooms for Amblecote Playing Fields. A portion of the money will also help accelerate affordable housing schemes across the city.

For residents, this could mean better places to play sport, improved local facilities and progress on housing. This is the kind of investment that can make a real difference across the city.
