Good morning, Salford!

Still buzzing from Peel Park's 180th birthday celebration over the weekend, what a day it was. If you were there, you already know. If you missed it, gutted - but there's a lot more to look forward to this week.

Also, a massive thank you to everyone who filled out the survey last week. You lot came through and 56.1% of you said you'd love to see events from across Greater Manchester included in the newsletter. Salford will always be at the heart of Salford Signal, but starting next week, I will be including a few amazing things happening within 10 miles of Salford that I think you'd love in the “Exciting things to do this Weekend” section, so keep an eye out!

Now let's get into what's happening in Salford this week.

Featured in today’s signal:

Irlam & Cadishead Community Festival

❝

If you are looking for something to do this bank holiday, Irlam and Cadishead has got you covered.

The Irlam & Cadishead Community Festival is one of the City's longest running community festivals, with roots going all the way back to 1950.

Saturday 29th kicks things off with Sporty Saturday, Sunday 30th is the Salford 100: Wagon Train, and Monday the 31st is the main festival day with market stalls, live music, sports, street theatre and free activities running throughout the day.

And to crown it all, the evening fireworks display is back. Last year was the first time since 2019 that the fireworks returned and thousands showed up for it. This year they're doing it again and it is going to be worth staying for.

It's free entry across the whole weekend, but you can click here to learn more about the Fringe Events.

Meet Kubo - The dog who gives the best bear hugs

❝

I don't feature pets every week, but when I do it’s because I genuinely think they deserve to find the right person - and this week that dog is Kubo.

Kubo is one of those dogs who throws himself into everything with his whole heart. He walks beautifully on the lead, can sit, give paw, recall and respond to commands, and the look on his face when he gets something right is absolutely the best thing you will ever see. He is also working through a nervousness around other dogs and making real progress, which just shows what a bit of patience and love can do.

He does have a few things his new family will need to know:

  • Slippery floors worry him so a home with carpets or rugs would be ideal.

  • He can also find loud or new environments a bit overwhelming, so a calm household where he can take things at his own pace is what he needs.

  • He loves the outdoors so a secure garden is essential, and quieter, more rural walks where he is not overwhelmed would suit him best.

He loves children and could potentially live with a calm female dog with the right introduction. But more than anything, Kubo just needs someone who will give him time, patience and consistency. And in return, he will give them everything he's got. Including those bear hugs, which by all accounts are absolutely worth it. 🐾

Restaurant of the Week - L’Artigiano

❝

If Italian food is your thing, L'Artigiano is one you need to know about.

L'Artigiano's atmosphere is warm and the service is the kind that makes you feel genuinely looked after from the moment you walk in. It sits right in the heart of Salford Quays, which makes it a brilliant spot before a show at The Lowry or on any other night you fancy a really good meal.

You get to enjoy fresh pasta, daily chef specials, a solid dessert selection and cocktails to go alongside. There is also a gluten free pasta option for anyone who needs it, which is always a welcome touch.

A few items worth trying:

  • Pasta L’Artigiano

  • Fiorentina “Toscana” (2 to share)

  • Zucchini Fritti.

  • Costolette dello Chef

Reservations are recommended, so click here to check out their full menu and book ahead!

The cancer awareness roadshow coming to a street near you!

❝

This one is important and I want as many people to be informed. The #ThisVanCan cancer awareness roadshow is touring Salford over the next few weeks and it is completely free to drop in.

The team behind it is from Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance, part of the NHS, and they will be on hand to talk through the signs and symptoms of cancer to look out for, what cancer screening is available and what to do if something is bothering you. No appointment needed, just show up and have a chat.

Finding cancer early genuinely saves lives. If you have been putting off thinking about something or just want to know more, this is an easy and low pressure way to get some answers.

Here's where they will be:

📍Asda, Peel Green on Thursday 27 August (10am to 4pm)
📍Aldi, Irlam on Friday 28 August (10am to 4pm)
📍Regent Retail Park on Thursday 3 September (10am to 4pm)
📍Tesco, Pendleton Way on Friday 4 September (10am to 4pm)
📍Walkden Shopping Centre on Saturday 12 September (10am to 4pm)

Please share this episode one with anyone you think might benefit from seeing it. It could make a real difference.
