Free Blood Pressure checks this Saturday

❝

High blood pressure (HBP) is one of those things that often has no obvious symptoms, which is exactly why so many people do not know they have it. Finding out early that you have HBP makes a big difference because it’s one of the biggest risk factors for heart disease, stroke and kidney problems. And with the right support, it is manageable.

This Saturday, She Rises Collective is hosting a free blood pressure check event in Eccles, and I think it’ll be good for you to pop by.

Getting your blood pressure checked takes minutes, and it could give you information that changes things for the better. Whether you are someone who goes to the doctor regularly or someone who tends to put these things off, this Saturday is an opportunity to just go and get it done.

It is free, no appointment needed and the team there will be happy to talk you through what your results mean.

Live Classical Music and Theatre Event at Salford Royal

❝

On 17th September, Salford Royal hospital is hosting a free live performance, bringing classical music and visual theatre to patients, visitors and staff who might never usually get the chance to experience something like this.

The afternoon features a professional wind quintet performing alongside Goofus Theatre a touring company that specialises in mask work, puppetry, clowning and non-verbal storytelling. The kind of performance that does not need words to move you.

There are two sessions on the day:

  1. A free public performance in the main hospital lobby at 1:30pm, open to anyone who wants to come along.

  2. A private session on the dementia ward afterwards.

The idea behind this event is to connect with audiences who cannot easily access the theatre. Bringing art and performance into spaces like hospitals means everyone gets a chance to experience something special.

Restaurant of the Week - The Old Fire Station

❝

If you’re still contemplating about visiting The Old Fire Station, let me change that. Originally built in 1903 as Salford Central Fire Station, it has been transformed into a bakery, brewery, café and bar all under one roof.

They serve freshly baked sourdough every single day, made with organic heritage ingredients and the kind of crust that makes you want to just stand there and smell it. Alongside that, there are cakes, pastries and a breakfast and lunch menu for a prefect brunch.

A few items worth trying:

  • Garlic mushroom and spinach

  • Blendsmiths latte

  • Littlewoods bacon sandwich

  • Santa fe Salad

Their coffee is sourced from a local independent roaster that takes ethical sourcing seriously, so it’s definitely worth a try. It has a warm, relaxed and friendly atmosphere. A proper Salford spot - go and enjoy it.
